Warsaw, the city once called “The Paris of the East” has had its share of hardships and it suffered some major losses with 85% of its buildings destroyed during World War II, but it has risen from the ashes and keeps on evolving constantly with a combination of new and old. Warsaw is the 8th biggest city in the European Union with its 1,7 million inhabitants. 70% of the people who work in Warsaw, work in the service industry and a big part of them in the banking industry. The unemployment rate in Warsaw is lower than in other parts of Poland.

Warsaw is actually divided into two very different parts by the Vistula river. The west bank being the place for a busy nightlife and glamor and the east bank being the more artistic and cultural side. They say that this capital is full of surprises and exploring pays off! For example, did you know, that in Warsaw you can buy a donut almost on each corner for only 1.50 zloty? Or that Praga, the trendy area of Warsaw, can offer you the most special places to grab a beer and participate in some quirky cultural events? You can also find a skiing station in the middle of the city, a tropical beach on the Vistula river and much more!

This baroque beauty of a city is the fifth cheapest destination in Europe after Riga, Vilnius, Budapest and Paphos. You can get a pint for around 3 euros and use public transportation with a fraction of the price compared to London.

For an expat moving to Warsaw, the city feels approachable and manageable. It is said to be “human-sized”, which allows its residents to walk almost anywhere in the center. Getting your life started in Warsaw requires making local friends. There are a lot of different social groups, online and offline, that arrange varying activities that help a newcomer with living a happy life in Poland.
