Our client is a Norwegian shipping company that operates a fleet of cruise ships along the coast of Norway. Established in 1893, they originally provided vital transportation and cargo services to remote communities along Norway's rugged coastline. Over the years, it has evolved into a popular cruise line offering both domestic and international voyages. Our client is well-known for its coastal cruises, which navigate through Norway's picturesque fjords and visit various ports of call, providing passengers with opportunities to experience the country's stunning natural scenery, charming coastal towns, and unique culture. Additionally, they offer expedition cruises to destinations such as Antarctica, Greenland, Iceland, and Svalbard, focusing on adventure, exploration, and wildlife encounters in remote and pristine environments.

Functions and responsibilities

The responsibility of the Nature and Culture Interpreter shall include, but is not limited to:

  • Executing the planned expedition concept together with the rest of the team:
  • Conducting lectures, presentations, and activities in accordance with Hurtigruten's expedition concept
  • Participating as a guide on self-produced hikes and other outdoor activities on land
  • Acting as a host and guide between the guests and guest experiences on the voyages:
  • Being available and visible to guests during working hours
  • Being updated and informative towards guests regarding onboard activities and excursions
  • Participating in daily coordination meetings with the expedition team both to plan the next day's activities and activities for
  • the rest of the trip, onboard and on land
  • Participating in the tasks and activities of the other members of the expedition team
  • Having knowledge of Hurtigruten's excursion offerings and actively contributing to their sales
  • Co-responsible for the operation and maintenance of the expedition equipment used by the team
  • Reporting to the Expedition Leader about all deviations or accidents. Implementing corrective actions for deviations to avoid repetitions.
  • Assisting with necessary translations of languages
  • Ensuring that the company's standard for service and quality is maintained

The Nature and Culture Interpreter is obligated to adhere to the routines, instructions, and procedures developed for the position.

The Nature and Culture Interpreter is obliged to maintain confidentiality about personal information, both for crew members and for passengers, which they have access to through the performance of their duties. The confidentiality agreement form should be signed and filed in the personnel file.
