Tips that can help you land a job abroad

When you have made the big decision with looking for a job abroad, there are some things that are important to think about to land the job. In this blog post we are coming to you with some tips!

First of all, when applying for positions abroad, you need an updated CV in English. At our office you will always meet a native recruiter, but the internal recruiters at our clients don’t always speak a Nordic language. That is why everything needs to be in English. Don’t forget that the CV you send is the first impression the recruiter will have of you, want to make a good first impression? Then make a good CV! Me and my colleague Alva wrote a post on how to write a good CV, you can read about that here.

Second: Speaking with an International Recruiter at Nordic Jobs Worldwide, will be the first step to reach your goal of landing a job abroad. At this stage it’s important to be honest, tell the recruiter about who you are and what you are looking for in your career. It is also always good to think about all the important things about you that are not easily understood from your CV. You like playing with Computer Games, and have a big interest in IT? Tell the recruiter, maybe just your hobby is something that can be of great use in a new job!

Third: When talking to our International Recruiter you will be given a lot of information both via a Phone/Skype call and Email. This information is the key for the next interview – With the client abroad. Before this big interview, read through all the information given to you. It never gives a good impression for the client if you don’t know anything about the job you are applying for! So, a good tip is to read up on the position and google or search the client up online, looking at their web page etc.  It’s also good to write down some question about the role or the client to ask during the interview – This show your interest in them as a firm, and the role you are applying for.

The last tip is to always know what you will meet when traveling abroad. Get to know the city, plan how you are going to get there, where you would like to live and how to get to the office from your apartment. Planning makes it all so much easier! Both us at Nordic Jobs Worldwide and the client will be helpful in this process, so if you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask for help. There is also a lot of good information on different Facebook groups. Are you going to Barcelona, search up “Skandinaver I Barcelona”, and you will find a lot of people who are in the same situation as you and so many who have previously been.

If you want to have more information about your opportunities abroad, contact one of the International Recruiters, and they will help you in finding your dream job abroad!
